Hey Kathy,
Great site! I’m excited to check out your continuing adventures.
btw…you don’t look 50!
My 12 year old daughter was just told that she has Celiac Disease. She was complaining of major stomouch problems and we had her take a blood test. She has been a competitive year round swimmer since she was 9. She works very hard in practice and goes to practice 5 days a week. She has not seen the progress that her friends she trains with have. She is constantly complaining of stomouch pain during swim meets and recently during practice. Before this diagnosis, we have attributed it to nerves but now I am not sure. She has always been very thin and we keep telling her that once she gets her growth and muscle strenght she will see major improvement. I saw that you had an entry from another swim parent. I am just wondering if this could be affecting her performance?
Yes, it could definitely affect her performance. When I was still suffering with celiac disease I was essentially malnourished. I was very anemic, had half the red blood cells that are normal. This definitely affected my performance in sports and even normal daily activities. If your daughter begins the gluten free diet she will likely see changes very quickly. ~Kathy
Hi Kath, This is your sister! I have been checking in to your blog over the last few years just to keep up with your life. I guess I’ll be spending more time on the gluten free recipes and info as I just got back my bloodwork and it looks like I have Celiac too! The second thing I am going to do is change my family practice doctor. At your urging I have been asking him for 4 years about having myself tested for Celiac because of your diagnosis and my thyroid disease. He refused. I finally couldn’t explain away my diarrhea any more and went directly to the GI Doc. Hmmm! I have so many questions to ask him!
I’m glad you finally found out, Aileen. I’ll be happy to help you with anything! Talk to you soon, Kathy

Hi Kathy, I found your website while trying to find out more about the difference between celiac and gluten-intolerant. I guess a lot more research needs to be done. I have been gluten-intolerant for a decade. but i apparently do not have the celiac markers. anyway, i wanted to say more than anything, that I thought i was visiting my own site when i stumbled upon yours. we have the same wordpress template! (http://gluten-free-foodie.net) nice site
